    Add in the expected emissions from projects in some stage of the planning process and we are most of the way toward warming the world by 2 degrees Celsius — a prospect scientists consider terrifying and most world governments have repeatedly pledged to avoid. Some hoped that the pandemic would alter the world's course, but it hasn't.
  4. We spent a million years evolving for survival (or a billion, if you want to count things that way), have had agriculture for the last few thousand, and the kinds of technology + scale of population enough to burn the world for a much shorter time than that.
  5. I think it's not really about climate or science, just like the arguments about masks were not about pandemics or disease. Somewhere between 1945 and now western countries totally lost the ability to imagine we can band together and transform society for the better.
